4 Tips to Get Your Home Back-to-School Ready

The days are long, the sun is hot, and your living room is full of little ones, soaking up the last bit of sweet, summertime vibes.

It may be hard to believe, but fall is right around the corner! As September draws near, it brings with it the start of the back-to-school season.

Getting your home ready for back-to-school is just as important as picking out first-day outfits and filling backpacks with new school supplies.

Organization is key when it comes to making sure that your home is as ready for back to school as you are.

That’s why we’re here to share some of our favorite tips to get you off to a great start!

1.) Establish a Command Center:

Choose a centralized space that’s in plain sight of everyone in the family, and turn it into the Command Center. This is the place where everything goes; the paper work, schedules, assignments, the reading lists, the family, and school activities. You name it, and this space contains it. This can be behind the pantry door, on a wall outside the dining room or kitchen, or even right beside the front door. As long as everyone can access it, it works. It can be a simple calendar on a wall, or something elaborate with hooks for file folders, small message boards, and other supplies. Whatever it may be, having it will make your life a lot more organized!

2.) Organize your Entryway:

You’ve established a Command Center for information, but what about for “stuff?” Your Entryway is the first place you go to grab what you need to start the day and, often times, the first place you go to drop your things when you come home in the evening. Whether your Entryway is cozy or spacious, creating a space that works for your family’s needs is essential. That may be as simple as a place to sit down and put on shoes, or maybe it’s a couple of hooks on the wall to hang up backpacks and jackets. However, if you want to maximize your space, consider a combination of seating, with cubbies, baskets, and hooks. This instantly creates a designated space capable of keeping everything in place.

3.) Create a Study Space:

Do you have a spare room that’s become kind of a catch-all space or a corner that would be perfect for a small desk or reading nook? Having a dedicated Study Space is a super beneficial way to start the new year off right. Not only will it keep your kids focused when it comes to completing their assignments, it can also help prevent their schoolwork from ending up spread throughout the house. You can make it extra inviting by adding fun decor that inspires productivity and creativity.

4.) Declutter Closets:

It’s no secret that kids grow up quickly, nor that kids’ bedrooms will always be a challenge when it comes to organization. There’s a delicate balance between encouraging playtime and instilling a sense of responsibility. You can use the start of the new school year as the perfect time to combine cleanup time with family time. Have your kids help you go through their closets and decide what stays and what goes. Make it fun by teaching them the joy in donating items they’ve outgrown, and help them organize the rest!

One of the most rewarding things about getting your home organized is how much more functional and inviting your space feels when it is optimized.

If you’ve tried all these tips and your house still isn’t feeling as home-y as you would like this fall season, we know just the team who might be able to help you find something that better fits your growing needs!
